Electronic Security Technician Level 1 Practice Exam

The primary function of a perimeter detector is to monitor external boundaries. This type of detector is designed to establish a protective zone around a building or property line, making it essential for early detection of unauthorized access. By tracking movements at the perimeter, these detectors can alert security personnel before an intruder enters the more vulnerable areas of the property, helping to prevent breaches.

Perimeter detectors can include different technologies such as infrared sensors, motion detectors, and fence-mounted sensors. Their focus is on the outermost line of defense, allowing security systems to effectively respond to threats that may approach a facility.

In contrast to the other options, the detection of motion within a room pertains to interior security measures rather than perimeter security. Securing entries and exits is a part of overall facility security but is more about the integrity of access points than monitoring the perimeter itself. Triggering alarms on glass breakage refers specifically to monitoring windows and is not comprehensive of perimeter security, which encompasses a larger area surrounding a property.
